This Saturday (11/27/10), The Animal Planet is doing something awesome! The television show "Pitbulls & Parolees" will be airing a special episode that for every viewer, the channel will make a donation to rescue center. All you have to do is watch the episode! So freaking simple! Doesn't cost you a dime! Please see the link below for details, as well as more about the show. This is an amazing show that does good work, not just for the dogs, but for the humans that need redemption too. Just about every episode has me in tears and in awe of how good people CAN be if given the chance.

Homemade Butterbeer
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients
FOR THE BUTTERBEER
6 12-ounce bottles cream soda [I prefer IBC (which is vegan) or Polar Classics Vanilla, but any will work perfectly]
3 teaspoons butter extract
FOR THE FOAM (Vegan/Dairy-free recipe linked here)
2 cups heavy cream
6 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons butter extract
To make the butterbeer: Set out 6 16-ounce glasses. Place 1/2 teaspoon of butter extract in each glass. Pour 12 ounces of butterbeer into each glass. Lightly stir, if necessary.
To make the foam: In a large bowl, or the bowl of a standing mixer, whip the heavy cream on medium high speed for 3-4 minutes until it starts to thicken. Add the sugar and continue whipping until very soft peaks begin to form, another 3-4 minutes (if you need to whip more or less, then be sure to do so, the times can vary quite a bit based on environment). Stir in the vanilla and butter extracts, then whip for another 30 seconds or so, until soft peaks form.
Spoon a generous portion of foam on top of each glass of butterbeer. Serve immediately.

Because William Randolph Hearst knowing that hemp would put him (a man heavily invested in the timber industry), out of business, as well as DuPont (who also knew that hemp would drive his profits into the ground), created a Faux News like campaign based on lies and fear that led to marijuana to be outlawed starting with the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 ..........
Here's the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937
Here's the legal history of Cannabis in the USA

So apparently I'm a Nazi for wanting to put Palin & Whitless into a volcano.
*rolls eyes*
It's called "Cartoon Hate". It's where you feel such hatred towards something that it makes you almost cartoonish. Example: someone hates Rachael Rae so much that they tried to return a box of Wheat Thins because it had her face on the box, and when they couldn't return the box, they cut her face off the box.
I have cartoon hate towards Palin especially.
She is EVERYTHING I despise in human beings. She smuggly chants that she's "a real American" when she turns around and takes over $200,000 for appearances and then MOCKS celebrities for speaking their minds. WTF?!
She openly mocks intelligence. She states that speaking with knowledge, and being respectful is being an "elitist". Asking someone what they read is "attack journalism". And allowing people to marry the person they love is immoral.
Her fellow companion is Meg Whitman.
Now, I'm a feminist. I'm a modern one too. I believe in EQUALITY. No special tests for firefighters or cops or military. If you can't pass the test, then you fail like everyone else. But why are there no female NFL players? Or female BASEBALL players? Why does it have to be SOFTBAll? I believe in being EQUAL 100%. So why is it that the women in politics these days have to pander to the lower common levels of the country in order to win?
Why do they sacrifice their fellow women in order to win the vote?
I'm the furthest thing from a Nazi. THAT is outright laughable if the jackass that called me this knew me in the slightest.
What makes me want to throw them into a volcano is that I DESPISE them on a personal level. I honestly would be willing to vote for a Republican if they were willing to not have their head up their collective asses and push for what WILL work.
I just refuse to allow my state to be run by an open idiot! Someone that has ZERO experience running a political office. Running a company isn't the same! It's just fucking not! Totally different type of issues involved!
That, ..............and Palin's winking pisses me off to me core.
Jut because it has a vag, doesn't mean I'm going to vote for it!

Last night's episode of Glee was inspiring!
The writing was amazing as well as the directing. The scene between Kurt, his dad and Finn was ...................just so amazing that words don't do it justice.
Finn is upset about his mom now moving in with Kurt's dad. AND that he has to share a room with Kurt, who is openly gay and has hinted at a crush on Finn. When Kurt redesigned the room, Finn is made to feel more uncomfortable about it. Kurt WAS pushing things on him and not acknowledging Finn's feelings. This caused Finn to lash out at him, and in a VERY bad way: with homophobic words. He's yelling about getting rid of "this faggoty blanket, and this faggoty curtain..." when Kurt's dad walks in.
Now here's where not only did my jaw hit the floor, but my heart screamed in applause. Kurt's dad, who is "manly" and openly stated in another episode that he's struggling with Kurt's sexuality. But hearing someone call his son a fag upset him to his core! He screams at Finn that even if this would cost him Finn's mother's love and being in his life, he'd NEVER allow someone to live under his roof that would disrespect his son or use such language in his house. He tells Finn how even he used to call weaker people fags, and he now understands how hurtful that was. He stands up for his son in such a fashion I WISHED more REAL parents did!
Growing up in high school, I had a friends that weren't so lucky. Most it being a cultural issue because they are Latino and being gay in that culture is very hard. Religion being the main reason for this intolerance. But seeing Kurt's dad defend him and yell at Finn was just outstanding! He overcame his own issues with it. After Finn runs out of the room scared and upset, Kurt's dad turns to Kurt and says "The room looks really good. I'm very proud of you."
And here's where I started crying and wanted to hug the director: Kurt's dad turns to leave and just before he walks out, he touches Kurt on the shoulder. THIS simple touch, this pat on the back, and Kurt's simple touch on his dad's hand, BROKE ME!
As a parent, there are times when loving your child simply for who they are can make you overcome WHAT they are. In the movie "Jeffrey", there's a scene at the gay pride festival where a mother of a "pro-operative, transsexual, lesbian son" gives this speech about her son. He had told her that he wanted to become a woman and be a lesbian. Well she judged. She "judged plenty". But then the summer Olympics happened. She saw the synchronized swimmers and saw the parents waving flags. She thought: "Hey! If they can be proud of their kid because they can hold their breathe in the deep end............then I can be proud of mine!"
The moral of the episode, and why both KISS and Lady Gaga was used, was to say just because you're "different" doesn't mean you should pretend to be like everyone else. BE DIFFERENT and be PROUD of this!!
Finn ends up making amends for his behavior and defends Kurt from this 2 football homophobes that were about to beat up Kurt for dressing as Lady Gaga. Finn defends Kurt dressed as Lady Gaga himself to also be backed up by the rest of the Glee group.
It just made me cheer!! I wish more teenage shows would be more this upfront about bullying and how parents need to step up and love their gay kids. My one friend in high school was outed to his dad by a vicious ex. When his dad confronted him, with rage in his eyes, he was forced to lie. He had to hide who he is, as far as I know even to this day. His sister even had to back up the lie, because she knew their father would throw him on the streets. He was 15 years old at the time. I will NEVER understand how a parent could do that to their kid as long as I live.
Praise Ryan Murray for last night's Glee! Bravo!

I woke up this morning to the news bite that Fred Phelps and his "church" are going to protest the metal god Dio's funeral.
I was not a fan of Dio's music, but my hatred for all things Fred Phelps and his sick followers has forced my hand this morning.
I know that the fans of Dio will help me since I'm not in the city that Dio's funeral or memorial are set to take place. I know that the Phelps people will follow the law. They will post those sickening signs they famously carry and that it will be either across the street or near somewhere that they can legally put a protest near the funeral.
PEOPLE: we MUST be respectful to the family & friends of Dio but more importantly need to be respectful to the Phelps people. No violence. No words should be shared with them. Simply ignore them..............or rather block them out.
Think The Laramie Project!
I need people to plan out a way to shield the protesters from view. I need people to create screens that will cover the protesters from view but in a way that is LEGAL and not a viable disturbance that will cause anyone to get arrested. Very much like this:
Here's an image of what I'm talking about
There are crafty people that make this happen!! Again, do this to block them from view to also be respectful and civil as to not get arrested.
Spread the word! Do craigslist ads, Facebook groups, Myspace posts, whatever it takes to get people to organize this and help protect the grieving family of Dio from this group of hate mongering, disgusting people.
Honor Dio and the ALL the other people that have been a target of Fred Phelps insanity.

When we moved up here, I went to the Barnes & Noble closet to us to pre-order the new Sookie Stackhouse novel "Dead in the Family". I have sucked up all the other novels in the series and fallen deeply in love with the novels. It's me new geek attraction. I even started reading one of her other series, the Harper Connelly novels. Those aren't quite as good as the Sookie series, but they are pretty decent.
I also read one of the stand alone novels she did "Sweet & Deadly". Both of the stand alone novels, and the 3 sets of series Harris has written (The Harper Connelly, Aurora Teagarden, Lily Bard Shakespeare) are mystery novels. The Sookie Stackhouse series is the only one that involves "fantasy" materiel. This is sort of the main reason why I preferred the Sookie series, as it's a mixture of both mystery novel and fantasy novel.
When the book came out last week, I was very excited to read the new story as the last novel "Dead & Gone" ended with such a question of where it was headed, especially with the character Vampire Bill.
When Sunday came along & I still hadn't received the book or a phone call to pick up the book, we went to the store to see what was up. Well apparently the person that rang us up for pre-order back in February, did something weird because it was showing the paperback version, but charged me for the hardback version. Well the system had canceled the order, but I was never notified about it. I now have to keep an eye out for the credit I BETTER be getting soon. We just grabbed on off the shelves so I could have my book.
I started reading it that night. I didn't stop reading it until I realized it was after 2am, and I was half way through the book! WOW!
I'm going to put my review of the book behind a cut because many people may have not read it yet, so I don't want to spoil anything. So just come back to this post and read my review later then after you've finished the book.
To summarize, I was sadly disappointed with it. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars. Harris did a good job, but I think she sort of slacked on the plot a bit. Normally, there is about 75% "filler" stuff and 25% core storyline that flows through the whole novel, leaving the ending to be the grand finale of the plot. But this one, at least IMO, felt like 90% "filler" and the rest being split into 2 different plots. Honestly, it really felt like HALF a book! Like she chucked out half of the novel part way through it or changed her mind part way through it. When I finished it, I felt like "Wait....that's it??!!" It just left a disappointed taste in my mouth.
( **SPOILER ALERT- THERE ARE DETAILS OF THE BOOK AND THE PLOT BEHIND THE CUT!!** DON'T CLICK UNLESS YOU'VE READ THE BOOK!! )

Uhhh....Harry Potter! Honestly I've enjoyed the films but I've been disappointed in what items they chose to portray, instead of sticking to the mythos of the novels.
Example: the last film glossed entirely over the whole Voldemort storyline of the book. And it included a chase scene with Ginny & Harry that could have been cut entirely to make room for the core storyline of the book. Hell, this stuff about his past plays into the last novel!
I had to honestly stop analyzing the film at certain point because I was slowly starting to hate it.
I didn't really like Goblet or Phoenix because of the Teen Romance angles they decided to focus on. Phoenix was my favorite of the books too. I really got into it. I once threw the book across the room because what happened in the book upset me so much! But the film cut that scene out!! I was so disappointed, but I walked in expecting to be let down a little. The book is after all freaking long so you can't include everything!
I can't wait for the next one and I'm so happy they decided to cut it into 2 films. Honestly, if they tried to slam everything into 2 hrs the story is going to get anally raped.
There is another book I'd like to see get turned into something but I'd rather it be a series on like Syfy or HBO. "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore. Honestly, reading it has serious potential to be a series!! And Moore could help with the stories.
